Six years ago, an ultimatum forced Dan Greyson to make a choice that cost him everything he loved most One of those things His boyfriend, hockey player Ashton Yager Now that theyve crossed paths again, Dan isnt about to let the opportunity slip away Ashs reappearance in his life is just the catalyst Dan needs to escape the rut hes fallen intoand win back Ashs trust and loveAshton Yager, once burned and now a little bit shy, didnt mean to publicly come out as bisexual But now that he has, hes got to deal with the consequences, including the fact that it mightve cost him his NHL contract With his job on the line, he needs to keep his head down, work hard, and play the best hockey of his life Rekindling things with Dan Thats not exactly keeping a low profile Its also never going to happen, not after Dan walked away once without an explanationWhen a hurricane forces Ash to seek shelter out of state, he and Dan find themselves in the same B B, where old feelings resurface But with everything Ash has on the line, does he dare play with fire again Der zweite Teil hatte leider nicht den selben Charme und Witz wie der erste Teil Es war nett aber mehr auch nicht Ich hoffe trotzdem , dass die Serie weiter geht und es ein Buch mit Cody und Kinsey geben wird. I reviewed my personal copy of this book for Wicked Reads. This is a wonderful second chance romance I felt comfortable with the characters right from the very beginning That actually surprised me because in the first book in this series, Dan isn t shown in the best light so I wasn t sure how I d feel about him Turns out he is a really good guy who made a bad decision which only led to heartbreak. The story stitches between the present day to six years in the past when Dan and Ash first met At first I didn t want the story to go back to the past but I quickly changed my mind It was fun being with Ash and Dan as they met They are so comfortable with each other and it was a pleasure to see them fall in love This is a couple I loved being with every during the bad times. The crux of this story is whether a couple can take second chance and move on after a betrayal and a broken heart Sometimes a happily ever after is all the sweeter if the couple has had to fight to for it The Nature of the Game is a great story.Wicked Reads Review Team The Nature of the Game is Book 2 in Stick Side series by Amy Aislin Somehow, I had read Book 1 and Book 3 but missed Book 2 I had to remedy that and read Nature of the Game to get the full story This is a beautiful story of a Dan s second chance to win back Ash who he left due to pressures he was unable to overcome Now older and able to withstand any external pressure he is out to win Ash s heart again. The Nature of the Game is an emotional and beautiful story written with great craft by Amy.This whole series is a winner I liked this book even better than the first, as this story hit me right in the heart Fate stepped in to give two men with a past together a second chance But, can Ash and Dan learn from the past and forgive what tore them apart Or will a manipulative mother, destroyed trust, and the nature of coming out as anything but heterosexual in professional sports doom their reunion Are they both strong enough the second time around to fight for what they ve always wanted This book is definitely not a stand alone, as it builds on the characters and storyline found in book one This is a slow burn exes to friends to lovers story, but once the heat is turned on it can t be turned off as easily I can t wait to see which character gets his HEA next, although I have my fingers crossed for a few One of the challenges of second chance romance is in finding the balance of information from the couple s first romance to give enough background on what happened that readers understand the MCs motivations as well as to present the current romance in a way that shows the previous problems are can be resolved I was concerned when the book opened with a flashback, but they do trail off so as to not feel like we re reading two novels concurrently.I liked Dan and Ash I was happy to see them get their second chance, though I was annoyed at Ash for a while, though the situation was understandable I was happy to learn about Dan and his motivations It s lovely to see Alex and Mitch Alex does a good job of prodding Ash without revealing anything I m hoping there is a next book I have my eye on a background character as a possibility I also would love to see the author s inspiration for Dan s art. Dan is coasting through life Not liking his job but not hating it Years ago his mother forced him to make a decision that broke his heart and that of his boyfriend Ash.When they finally meet again, Ash isn t interested in why Dan left him But even though he s not over the betrayal, his heart still wants the first and only man he has ever loved To get back to the way they were seems insurmountable. This was a yummy book about love re found and trust reborn Hockey romance is one of my favorite genres even though there wasn t a lot of hockey The story was a little slow in places Ash s constant refusal to discuss why Dan left him was a little much That said, I really enjoyed getting to know these guys I did read the first book so had a background to the story I think it would be okay as a standalone but recommend reading the first book. Loved everything I ve read by Amy, and this is no exception 2 bi guys 1 is a professional hockey player meet right after college, connect, but things hit an impasse and they don t reconnect for 6 years. In addition, the Hockey player s best friend on the team is dating the other main character s brother Not as complicated as it soundslol My favorite comment to make about a book like this love these guyswould love to hang out and have a few beers with them Dan and Ash s past was hinted at in the previous book, so it was really nice to get to learn about their past and how they reconnected having crossed paths again due to On the Ice s MCs Not only did we get their present day story, we also got the story of how they met six years previously. This book had me laughing one moment, especially the scene when they first had sex, then broke my heart the next. Not sure how many times I had tears running down my face while reading this Ms Aislin sure knows how to get you in the feels The story, while terribly heartbreaking in some aspects is a beautifully written love story. How can you not fall in love with Ash and Dan and hope really hard it works out for them To say the love scenes were hot, is true but you need to add touching and loving as well. The supporting characters were wonderful to meet as well. This was a fantastic read and now I need to buy Mitch and Alex s book to find out how they came to be.Highly recommend but have tissue ready and be prepared for emotional rollercoaster rides.
